Zhu Zhu Pets Review & Giveaway
About:
Zhu Zhu Pets are fun, interactive hamsters that talk, move and even navigate their way around their own habitats. And the best thing about these pets? No mess and no fuss…just hours of interactive play!
My Thoughts:
The Zhu Zhu Pets have become the favorite toy in my house, and not just with the little kids, the teenagers have been sucked in as well. When it arrived I thought, “oh these are cute, but I bet the kids are bored with them after the first day”, but I so was wrong! The kids have been playing with them every day, multiple times a day, since it arrived.
In all honesty, Logan loves hamsters and always has, but his nice one died and the one we replaced it with is an evil little thing. It’s hateful, doesn’t like to be looked at, much less touched, and bites you, even if you’re just feeding it. The Zhu Zhu Pets have healed his little heart because he has a hamster to love and hold again, one that will never bite or die and it will never need it’s cage cleaned… it’s fantastic.
Okay, so I found some things wrong with the Zhu Zhu Pets items that MomSelect sent, but the negative definitely do not outweigh the good! My biggest complaint was that the clips pop off quite easily, but I’m going to superglue all the tunnels together to prevent it, and really they snap back together quickly so it’s not even a big deal.
Here’s what I thought of each piece…
- Funhouse – These are the base pieces that everything spans off of. The hamsters seem to know which part of the house they’re in and make noises accordingly. It’s pretty darn cute.
- Wheel & Tunnel – One of our hamsters prefers the wheel over anything else. As soon as you put it in the “funhouse” it heads straight for the exercise wheel. Over time the wheel squeaks just like a real hamster wheel, but a couple drops of sewing machine oil and it’s as good as new.
- Skateboard & U-turn Ramp – We made an S of the ramp and attached the “sleep dome” to the end because I couldn’t quite see how it went with the skateboard. But, if you put the hamster on the skateboard it’ll skate all over the non-carpeted floors. It’s cute, but not one of my favorite sets.
- Surfboard & Sleep Dome – Like I already said I attached the dome to the “u-turn ramp” and then the kids put the hamster on the surfboard to go across the kitchen floor. I’m just not seeing how the two pieces fit together.
- Car & Garage – This is actually quite amusing. The hamster heads down the tunnel into the garge, climbs into the back of the car and off it goes. I had to tape the top piece of the garage to the bottom piece because it kept falling apart, but now it’s great. Logan uses it for a seat while he’s watching the hamsters roam around lol.
- Slide & Ramp – One of our hamsters can climb this, the other one needs help. The boys however think it makes an awesome hot wheel ramp.
- Adventure Ball – This is my favorite thing! You put the hamster in it and it goes just like a real hamster. Under the table, across the floor, into your feet, everywhere… just like a real hamster. Like the garage I had to tape the ball together, but every hamster ball we’ve ever owned has been that way.
- and 2 Hamsters – They’re adorable, they have a mind of their own, and if you but two side by side they communicate with each other. The hamsters are seriously my favorite part of the whole set. The big downfall with them is the wheels will suck up hair and string from your floors, which you then have to remove little by little with tweezers, and they’ll entangle the hair on your child’s head if they’re moving and get too close. Logan learned quickly to hug them on his chest and not snuggle them against his neck. He also broke one of them when he threw it at Lucas, but that was completely our fault, not the design of the product. It still talks and tries to go, but the wheels just don’t turn. When it hit the wall, it must have broke something inside.
And like I said, I found plenty of things wrong with the Zhu Zhu Pets design, however it’s like that with most of the kids’ toys (don’t even get me started on Polly Pockets!) but Zhu Zhu Pets is one that I won’t be getting rid of any time soon. As a matter of fact, Lucas is getting more hamsters and the sets we don’t have for his birthday.

My twin daughters watched tv on and off all day one day to watch the commercial so I can tape it. They watched the commercial over and over.They where so cute they looked at me and said “mommy we will clean the whole house if we can just get these”
but if not mommy we are happy just watching the commercial those zhu zhu pets are sooo cute! So I would really love to make there dream come true!
I have a real hamster, Hammie. She’s very sweet and tolerant but I think she’s scared of my brothers, who are hyperactive 9 year old boys! She doesn’t bite but she’s got that “mommy save me” look when they are around her.

These are just so cute and my daughter is already hoping that santa will bring them to her for Christmas. Oh to be young and fixated on one little toy. It’s a shame that these are so hard to find in stores. I went to 5 Wal Marts and 2 Targets in a 30 mile area…nothing.
