I’m so proud of Wyatt and Cassie! They killed their first deer this year during youth season! Saturday morning Colby and Lucas headed off one way on our land, Kyle and Wyatt went one way, and Cassie and I headed off another. No one saw anything, but that’s why it’s called hunting and not killing Well, then Saturday afternoon we all headed back out with one major difference… Logan wanted to come with us. So about half an hour before dark Cassie, Logan, and I are sitting in the hunting blind, he’s made a ton of noise the whole time we’ve been out, ate a ton of snacks, played on the DS, taken bathroom breaks and generally broke every rule of how to efficiently hunt, and I’ve decided to call it a day and head home and as we’re packing up there is a buck standing at the edge of the field watching us lol. Cassie shot it and dropped it where it stood. A nice 5 point buck…

The only thing I can figure is the blind had everything muffled and he didn’t have a clue what was going on in it because he wasn’t 30 yards from us lol. So then Sunday morning Colby and Lucas went back out, as did Kyle and Wyatt. Colby and Lucas were in the blind, playing games on the DS and phone and eating gummy bears, with a propane heater keeping them toasty. Kyle and Wyatt got cold and cranky so they went to where Colby and Lucas were to warm up and have some snacks. They said they were sitting there, with even their fire department radios on, listening to a call that had been paged, when a deer came running up through the woods on the other side of some cedar trees where they could see it, but didn’t have a shot. Then it stopped perfectly on Wyatt’s side of the blind where he had a shot, which he took, and the deer ran about 10 yards before it dropped in it’s tracks. He was beyond thrilled and it didn’t even matter anymore that Cassie killed one before him…

Another nice 5 point buck. And while Lucas was heartbroken because it was killed from his spot and therefore should have been his deer, he’s getting over it because Colby, Wyatt, and Lucas are heading up north this weekend for a does only hunt and he will have another chance to take his first deer.
