Your Zone Review & Giveaway
Okay, so Walmart has a new line of teen-focused furniture and decor called Your Zone and the amazing people at Rockfish Interactive made a really neat online room configurator for them that allows people to “build” a room with different Your Zone items… http://instoresnow.walmart.com/Your-Zone.aspx
Well, Shelby played around with it for a while and created her “dream room” and then we were able to order $500 worth of Your Zone furniture and decor to review! See, now things are making sense, aren’t they? Yep, that is what inspired all the pictures and posts of the girls’ room that I’ve been putting up! If you somehow missed the room makeover posts I did, you can find them all in my Home Improvement category.
What’s absolutely fantastic is long with the review I am going to give away a $500 gift card to someone to purchase Your Zone items to makeover their own child’s room! Isn’t it exciting? But first, I’m doing the review :p

The comforters were the first things Shelby picked out and she made an excellent choice. The pictures on Walmart.com are pretty small so I couldn’t really tell if they’d match the paint or not, but after they arrived they were PERFECT. Their last comforter sets were Barbie, so I especially like that the Your Zone ones aren’t something they’re going to grow out of anytime soon. Heck, I’m the mom and the design is something I would actually use in my own room, if they came in king. And whatever fabric they’re made from is really nice. Yeah, yeah, I’m a seamstress and have absolutely no idea what the fabric is… it happens! Anyway, the girls tell me that they’re really comfortable to lay around and read or watch TV on, and even though we’re in the hottest part of Summer, they’re not too hot to sleep under.
The sheets, well to us sheets are sheets, but the colors are really vivid and match the comforter sets wonderfully. I can’t say anything about what they’re like after dozens of washes, because obviously we’re not there yet, but from what I’ve seen they’ll hold up just fine. The “Pop It Storage Bin’ is what Shelby picked to replace her old clothes hamper, and it’s really durable and it’s big enough that the girls are sharing it. It holds a weeks worth of laundry and still has room for more!
The armoire, storage cabinet, and desk… these were NO fun to put together. Combined they took Colby and I 5 hours to get finished! The instructions were clear, it was just tedious. I did like that you do only need a hammer and a screwdriver to put them together, it just seemed like it took forever. After they’re together though, they’re sturdy and stylish, and look fantastic as a set! The armoire is really roomy, but I really wish it had a shelf behind the doors. The drawers are HUGE and glide out so easy, which the girls really like.
The “storage cabinet” is what they’re using for a TV stand. It’s plenty big to hold a 19″ television and behind the doors is plenty of room to put a VHS/DVD player and satellite box! it doesn’t come with a hole in the backing board, but it’s really easy to drill through to put a hole.
The desk is a lot bigger than I was expecting. I didn’t like that there aren’t any shelves behind the door, but the girls decided to use it to keep their purses, binders, and tall books in, so it works. Cassie really likes that it has a long drawer on the front that is big enough to hold all of their art supplies, and Shelby likes the shelf underneath the drawer because she can put all of her “craft baskets” on it. She’s BIG into macrame so has baskets of string, yarn, twine, etc and sitting out in the open it makes things look cluttered, but she can put the baskets on the shelf and they’re somewhat hidden by the chair, so the clutter is gone.
Overall I’m pleased enough with the Your Zone products that I’m going to order a couple more items to complete the room. I’m already kicking myself for not getting the Racy Pink Folding Stools when I ordered everything else. Oh well, the girls are happy, so I am too.

2. I would like to make over our guest room so that family members from out of town could visit and feel comfortable. My daughter – who goes to college an 11 hour drive from home – also has guests visit with us, especially over the holidays like Thanksgiving. (Some kids live even farther away from home than she does and can’t get to their home for Thanksgiving. So we have them celebrate with us!) Right now the guest room is decorated in “catch as catch can” and hand-me-downs. It would be delightful to make this room more comfortable and welcoming for family and friends! I have to say, though, the armoire strikes me as the best piece, it is two-fold: Beautiful AND lots of storage. What household does not need more storage?
My son’s room needs it BAD! He still has his red race car bed and Disney Cars sheets & comforter. He doesn’t complain about it, but I know he is over the Disney thing. His tastes are changing everyday, but like you said, this is not a look they will be growing out of soon!

I would definitely make-over my son’s room. This would encourage him to spend more time in it, reading a good book, drawing, or doing other creative projects. This way he’ll spend less time watching television and playing video games.

We have two sons, ages 8 and 13. We just remade and redecorated our 8 year old’s room this past Spring to “freshen” things up a bit. I actually love all of the reversible comforter sets. May 12 year old daughter has been asking to do her room over for more than a year and in these rough times it has been hard to find the extra money. If I won I would surprise her and let her pick out the comforter set. I happen to like the black and white sets, but I think she would for the set with purple in them since this is her favorite color. She has two brothers and a sister who I am sure would give their input.

Well the item my sons likes best is the “your zone loft collection metal loft bed” (they actually like a great deal from the Loft Collection oh and in shades of Blue)
This is for my 16 or 17 year old sons. They have their own rooms now, after sharing them for the past 16 years! My 17 year old is now in his sister old room (painted pink and blue)hmmmm not too masculine and he likes to chill and have his own place feel to his room – thus the “Loft Collection”
Same could be said of my 16 year old – he wants to make his room his own “apartment” *laughing* walls are off white (it went with whatever the each of them wanted to hang, put on their beds etc.) He too liked the “Loft Collection”

My favorite item is the your zone zzz place to be bunk bed, walnut, twin. This would be perfect to make over my boys room. They currently have 2 twin beds that swallow up all the space in their room.
