A few months ago Wyatt said he wanted to let his hair grow long, he didn’t want it cut until spring. Well, he has thick, full, completely out of control hair, but I told him if that is what he really wanted I would stand up for him when everyone was harassing him to cut it. My family thinks it’s awful for a boy to have long hair so there was constantly someone asking him when he was going to cut it, especially after he asked me to trim his bangs, which gave him a mullet. He was happy with it and I wanted him to know that I support his decisions so I kept on backing him, even though I thought it looked pretty bad.

Then last week he came to me and said he was ready to get his hair cut, that he was tired of it being over his ears and down in his eyes. I didn’t have time to cut it right then and the next day he changed his mind. Okay, whatever, it’s his hair.

Sunday he tells me that he’s really ready to cut his hair, and this time he wasn’t changing his mind. I told him to sleep on it and if he still wanted it cut Monday that I would do it. I was so relieved when Monday night came and he still wanted his hair cut, though I was worried when he added the condition that he got to cut on it. We agreed that he could cut it and I got to clean it up when he was done.

He took a pair of scissors and went onto the front porch and started cutting away. I was too afraid to even peek out the door, but I figured if it was too bad I could always just shave it like we do in the summer. Well, all he cut was his bangs, and he only left about 1/4″ of hair, then he was done.

So, when he got out of the shower I reminded him that I got to finish his hair cut, that was our deal. He tried convincing me otherwise, but in the end I won and here is what we ended up with…

He is super pleased and kept telling me that I should work in a beauty salon, he even asked if when it grows out if I could cut it like that again. I told him we’ll have to see, apparently he doesn’t get it that I have no real skill when it comes to cutting hair and I’m only flying by the seat of my pants lol.
