“Mythbusters” activity kits
The “Mythbusters” activity kits are trial and error hands-on format, made popular by the Discovery Channel’s top show. Each kit has several myths to “bust” regarding the specific title. Kits include: Power of Air Pressure, Forces of Flight and Weird World of Water.
“Mythbusters” Weird World of Water
The Elmer’s Weird World of Water Kit just recieved the FamilyFun Magazine 2009 T.O.Y. award. With the Weird World of Water Kit you can test the power of whirlpools, create a liquid rainbow, launch your own water-powered rocket, and more! Available nationwide at Toys “R” Us, Target, and Walmart.
In this kit you’ll uncover the mysteries of water. It freezes and boils and turns into gas. Is there anything it can’t do? Can it suck a ship down a drain? Will you find hot water at the North Pole? Can it blast a rocket into space?
Suggested Price: $19.99
Age Range: 9+
If you have a boy, this would be a FANTASTIC gift for Christmas! Wyatt and Lucas had a blast with this kit and even Kyle got involved! I’m willing to bet that this would be in their top 5, if not top 3, products they’ve reviewed.
I’m not afraid to admit that I had as much fun as they did and we can’t wait for the rain to stop so we can get outside and try the vinegar and baking soda rocket! Wyatt liked the vortex experiment so well that he took it to school to show his teacher.
What I liked best is the kit offered suggestions for different ways to do the experiments, and will come in handy come Science Fair Experiment time at school!
The girls were pretty amazed with it as well, though they enjoyed part 2 of this review better…

“Scientific Explorer” Magnificent Manicure Kit
Scientific Explorer partnered with UC Berkeley’s Great Exploration in Math and Science (GEMS) program to create fun educational science kits like the Magnificent Manicure Kit. In fact, the Magnificent Manicure Kit just picked up Creative Child Magazine’s 2009 Toy of the Year Award in the Educational Toys category. Magnificent Manicure Kits gives you everything you need to turn your house into a nail spa for the day. Available nationwide at Toys “R” Us.
With the Magnificent Manicure Kit girls can learn about cosmetic chemistry, make their own sea salt scrub, create their own custom scent or create their own spa line. They can also turn their hands silky soft in the crystal mud that they make themselves!
Suggested Price: $19.99
Age Range: 8+
I can’t think of a single little girl that doesn’t love to be pampered and making their own scrubs and lotions was such a fun experience! And like the Weird World of Water Kit, the Magnificent Manicure Kit would make an excellent Christmas gift. As a matter of fact, my oldest niece will be recieving one from us.
There really wasn’t much “making” to the kit, more mixing the provided ingredients, but to a 10 year old girl it was big stuff. Even Shelby, who’s 13 kept saying how “cool” it was, and I liked the “fun facts”. Did you know that Pumice is a kind of volcanic rock that is found in things like pencil erasers, soap and even some toothpastes? I didn’t, but I do now!
The Magnificent Manicure Kit would also make a fun activity for a girls sleep over or birthday party. Whatever the occasion, your daughter will surely be pleased to create her own bath & body products!

I have to say, I just love the Mythbusters. I’m happy to see some activity kits for kids…that do not involve explosives!
I am with girls, it would be cool to make beauty products. My guys are in awe on what the kits has. The boys are fans!
Both of those products sounds like a lot of fun! I know that my nephews and nieces would love them. I want to make my own nail spa products too. ^_^
My 9-year-old niece would like both the water and the manicure kit – she’d love making rockets and rainbows with the water kit, and she’s really into fashion, so she’d love the manicure kit, too.
