Hold your jeans against you and figure out how long or short you want your skirt to be. Cut both legs off 3″ lower than your measurement…

Cut out interior leg seam of your jeans, making sure to cut as close as possible to the seam…

Use a seam ripper to rip out the remaining seam in the front, stop about an inch below the zipper. The sharper your seam ripper is the easier this will be, but make sure you don’t slip and stab yourself…

Do the same to the back, far enough up to allow the seam to lay flat across the butt of your jeans…

Spread your jeans out flat and smooth out your accent layer inside them…

Starting with the side that was underneath when you seam ripped fold the raw edge of your jeans under and pin to the accent fabric…

Then pin the side that was on top when you seam ripped to the accent fabric. If any of your pins are going to be hidden by the top layer, remove them…

Repeat for the back. Make sure you only pin the layers together that will be sewn together, do not pin through all the layers…

With a fairly close zig-zag stitch sew the denim to the accent fabric, removing the pins as you go. It’s a good idea to start with a full bobbin so you can save yourself some time…

Turn your skirt inside out and cut away excess accent fabric. It would be a good idea to use pinking shears, but if you don’t have them just leave room for the fabric to fray without coming through the stitches…

Turn your skirt back right side out and flatten it all out. With a ruler and marker or ink pen measure and mark the length evenly from the waist…

Cut all of the layers at once so the front and back will line up, then fold the raw edge under and hem or serge the raw edge…
