I’m beginning to think Logan is never going to potty-learn. He understands the basics and knows when he needs to pee. He’ll even come and tell me after he peed in his diaper. Heck, if he doesn’t have a diaper on, he’ll even pee in the potty, but it’s winter and he can’t run around naked!
So today he peed in his diaper and immediately took it off and brought it to me. I told him I wasn’t taking it, to go put it in the trash, and I wasn’t putting a new one on him so if he needed to pee he HAD to tell me.
A few minutes later he looks at me and said “I need to pee” so we rushed off to the potty and he did his thing. Well, he ran around in just his overalls for a while while I was cleaning up the house and I came across some coupons for Pull-Ups. I took it as a sign and got ready to go to town. We bundled up and headed on our way.
So we’re driving past the neighbors…
Logan: Them not horsies.
Me: No, they are buffalo.
Logan: Them not buffalo.
Me: Really? Then what are they?
Logan: Them hippos.
Me: Are you sure? I don’t think people are allowed to have hippos.
Logan: Yep. Them hippos. Diego said so.
Okay lol.
He didn’t say anything else the rest of the way to the grocery store. We get there and I carry him inside. I figure since I only have to get Pull-Ups and a bulb for the brake light that is out on Dad’s truck, that there is no need to get a cart. We get to the diaper isle and find the Pull-Ups, then grab the bulbs and head to the check-out.
Let me take a step back and say that I should have known to get a cart. The grocery store was busy, and I knew it would be because they’re calling for 3″ to 5″ of snow tonight and if there is a chance of snow 75% of the people in our town rush to the grocery store to stock up… which is a little looney because we rarely get enough slow to sled on, much less leave anyone stranded at home, unable to go to the grocery store when they need something.
So anyway, we’re in the check-out line, waiting patiently, only 3 people in front of us, and I’m hoping that we somehow make it through the line quickly, when Logan spots Freezer Pops at the end of the isle behind us and jerks away from me to run over there. Crap! I chase after him, losing our spot in line and tell him we’re not getting popcicles, there are popcicles at home, already frozen and ready to eat. We had a bit of an argument about popcicles and I told him I said no and no means no… we’re not getting them!
From there it went to him crying, people staring, an elderly man trying to help calm him down (which made it worse), and finally someone letting us in line in front of them just so we would get the heck out of there lol. It was not a fun trip! And of course, I forgot the coupons at home and had to pay $11 for the Pull-Ups… UGH!!!
When we got home I put a Pull-Up on Logan and we got the Hotwheels out and were happily playing, until he looked at me and said “I pooped!” Are you kidding me? And since then he’s peed in them twice. We went through all of that earlier to get a package of Pull-Ups and they made absolutely no difference. At this point I’m thinking he’s going to be in diapers when he goes off to college…
Oh man, potty training is tough with boys! I have an almost 3yr old daycare kid who will not go! He can and has a dry diaper most of the day, but now he cries every time I tell him that it’s time to go! UGHHH!!!
Girls are much easier!
Good luck!
tell me. potty training. no luck here neither.
and mine does not talk so he won’t tell me when he has to go but once a while brings me the diaper.
but he has no problem sitting on the potty as long as he can watch Diego. Arg.
We just started the process with our 17-month old son. I look forward to reading more of Logan’s progress, because I’ll take any tips and ideas to make it easier!
