Every time we start a new remodeling project I wonder if I’ve lost my mind. Something is started in nearly every room of the house and it seems like each one takes months (sometimes years) to finish. I mean seriously, we started on the kitchen 8 years ago… and it’s still not done. And don’t forget the trim that still needs put up around one of our exterior doors that Colby installed 2 years ago. It’s just the trim… but, whatever. As long as every room is functional I try not to complain.

Well, this time I’m certain that I’ve lost my mind.

After Joey moved out we re-did his room for the girls (and I still have to touch up the paint). Then Bobby moved out a couple months later so we moved the boys into his bedroom, with the intent of tearing down the walls between the two smallest bedrooms (that were the kids’) to make one large bedroom. We’ve now started it… well, we tore down the wall separating the room anyway, and I’m wondering how long it’ll take to clean up the mess and have it finished.

Plus, Colby decided that if we’re redoing it that it needs to be done to last forever so we’re going to re-insulate the walls, put up new drywall, put in new flooring (I want hardwood, he wants carpet) and replace he windows. I know he’s right and it’ll save us money in the long run because it will be easier to heat and air condition if it’s done right, but I’m kind of panicking right now. And the windows are odd sizes so it leaves us with two choices… have custom replacement windows made or buy standard size windows and try to make the patch job look decent on the outside… ugh!!!

I just know this is going to be a nightmare and I’m not looking forward to it! Though I guess one good point to it taking forever is it gives me plenty of time for Mom to get more slate top furniture in her store… and a new king size frame that will match it :D

  1. Oh I can’t imagine! We’ve never taken on huge project, just some face lifts here and there. I hope it doesn’t last too long for you!

It does look like a very big project. Good luck.
