I almost posted this last, but I figured I’d better give it a day and then see how I felt. Well, it’s a day later and I’m still mad so here it goes…

Shelby, Wyatt, Cassie, and Lucas are all in school now and they came home yesterday and said that something was wrong with the water and they couldn’t get drinks from the fountains. Instantly I was annoyed over this, but I stayed calm and asked for details.

Shelby hadn’t had anything to drink all day. She doesn’t like the schools white milk and chocolate (of any kind) gives her a rash, so she went the ENTIRE day without anything to drink. Wyatt was allowed to get an extra milk, and someone had brought each of the kids in Lucas and Cassie’s classes a bottle of water.

I’m relieved that two of the four weren’t denied water, but what was the school thinking? I think they should have announced it on the radios and sent the kids home early. Period, no ifs ands or buts! I know that would have been an inconvenience to some (a lot) of parents, but wouldn’t it be better to have to find a sitter than let your child sit in a classroom for 7 hours and get dehydrated?!

When Sandy dropped them off after church last night she said s0meone that works at the school had told her that the Walmart from a neighboring town had donated water to the classrooms, and while I was relieved I was still peeved!

Well, the kids went to school today and I told them all if there wasn’t bottled water in each of their classrooms to call and I’d bring them some. They didn’t call, but I was still worrying so Colby and I dropped off some bottles of water for Shelby to keep in her locker and took a case of water to Lucas, Cassie, and Wyatt’s classrooms. I couldn’t bear the thought of the kids doing without or not having enough for a second day!

Walmart had donated a case to each classroom, which was one bottle per kid (17 – 20 kids per room) so that was super kind of them, but I insisted on leaving the cases we’d brought just in case a child wanted more water!

Well, they ended up not needing it and the water is now safe to drink again, but I’m still very annoyed over the whole situation! The school never even notified us, not so much as a note sent home with the kids explaining the situation.

Cassie asked if I wanted her to bring what was left back home and I told her (and the other kids) that I wanted their teacher to keep it in his/her room in case anything like this ever happened again, or if they did an activity outside or something, they could take water out with them. I NEVER want my children to go without anything, especially WATER!!!

Would you have been mad if this had happened at your kid(s) school?

One Response to No water!

Oh my!! I would have been very mad about this situation!! They could have atleast let the parents know!!!
last year my son had his lunch stolen by another kid, and the lunch ladies would not let him get another tray!! He was in second grade at the time! But When he got home & told me, I called the school & went off! They assured me it wouldnt happen again! But I told my boys that if anything like that ever happens, and they dont feel right about it, for them to go to the office & call me!
