Colby’s mom had been sick for several days and yesterday morning she was having a lot of difficulty breathing, so when her doctor couldn’t get her an appointment she went the the emergency room in Rolla. They ran some tests and said she had pneumonia and then yesterday afternoon said that she was having a heart attack and they were transferring her to St. John’s immediately via ambulance.
Colby and I scrambled to get things together here, canceling Wyatt’s parent/teacher conference, making arrangements for the kids when they got home from school, preping Logan’s diaper bag, etc and headed off to St. Louis. We arrived just before the ambulance and weren’t even allowed to see her because she went straight in for testing. Kristy, Ed, Eddie and his kids arrived shortly after and we all waited, quite impatiently, in the lab waiting room for them to tell us something… anything!
Finally the doctor came out and basically said that the doctors Bonnie saw at Rolla were a bunch of idiots. They sent a copy of her EKG with her and he said they must have mis-read it because she hadn’t had a heart attack, all the veins in her heart were fine, and there was nothing wrong with her heart period. –insert HUGE sigh of relief here– He then went on to say her blood pressure was WAY too high and her blood sugar was off… which wasn’t a surprise because she’s diabetic and has hypertension.
They’re keeping her for a couple days for observation and then she gets to return to her normal life!!! I had no idea it was possible to be so angry and so happy at the same time! Angry that PCRMC could be that careless and stupid and scare the hell out of us like that, and happy that they were morons and Bonnie is fine.
We knew Rolla didn’t have a great hospital, now we know how awful they really are!
