I was watching one of those home makeover shows on HGTV today and they made a dog ramp for the homeowner’s bedroom! It’s so your dog can still get up on the couch or bed to lay down after they’re old and can’t jump anymore. I don’t know if I think dog ramps super cute or if I think the people are crazy!

I had a friend of mine build a ramp for my bed because my old man (dog of 12) can’t jump up there anymore, I think it’s cute and I know i’m crazy, lol :)

I haven’t seen these, but we have a dog ramp, using a vehicle wheel ramp attached over the dog steps from the dog door that leads from the house into the back door. We had to do the ramp thing instead of just stairs for a little dog we had a few years ago. She was an old little dog who had got blown off the patio in a bad wind storm. When she was blown off the accident tore up the muscles in one of her knees and weakened the muscles in that back hip too. After $800 worth of surgery on her knee the Vet said no more steps, and to do the ramp thing. So my hubby figured out what to do and it worked. Unfortunately a couple years after that she got bite by a black widow spider. Even with medicine and a good fight by her she died after two weeks. I still miss her, but our other little dog is great. We are getting a big dog on Sept. 5th, from one of the Women’s Prisons in our State. They teach the women there how to train dogs and then you purchase the dog from there. The money you give them goes for the dogs care, but also part of it is given to the Women Prisoner for when she transitions out of Prison into a half way house or to help them pay restitution in some instances for the crime they have done. It also helps to teach these women patience and anger control, as well as other skills. We got to visit with the German Shepard we are going to get last Saturday.
I don’t know if I would have made a ramp so a dog could get on a couch or bed, but that’s okay with some people. My dogs have dog beds on the floor. We do get them quality dog beds though, with a thick high quality foam rubber, and not just flimsy stuffing.
What we’ll do for our little furry friends!

Sorry I meant to say that leads from the house into the back yard, not back door.

See, I don’t have much experience with little dogs. Our housedog, Bailey, is small, but not tiny, and she’s only a year old so she can jump onto about anything. When she wants in the house instead of scratching on the door she jumps onto the back of the loveseat thing on our porch and looks in the window.

The only other housedog I’ve ever had was a chow, who lived to be 14+ years old. He couldn’t jump on the couch or bed anymore, but he only wanted to be there if I was on it, and I had no problem picking his fat butt up so he could be by me.

There are also medicines to help with the hips and joints too, and to me it seems like fixing the problem as a whole would be a much better option! I should have elaborated my thoughts more, but when I posted it was late and my brain doesn’t function well at night lol.

I also want to ad that on the same website I saw the couch ramps I saw truck ramps and those I could totally see the usefulness of! http://www.discountramps.com/folding-dog-ramp.htm Our male rott got his chain tangled in Colby’s tailgate last spring and he didn’t see it when he left. He drug Nemo behind his truck about 100 yards before I got him stopped. Luckily with lots of medicine and TLC Nemo is fine, but he’s too afraid to jump into the back of the truck anymore and he’s WAY too heavy to lift!
