You will need two 8″ by 12″ cuts of your exterior fabric, interior fabric, and interfacing, your sewing machine of course, one button, a needle and thread, a 5″ piece of ribbon and a straight pin…

Attach the interfacing to the back side of your exterior fabric according to the manufacturer’s instructions…

Put the exterior fabric pieces right sides together and sew around both sides and the bottom using a 1/2″ seam allowance. If you’ve picked a fabric with a directional pattern you want one to be upside down, on mine one set of birds is facing up and the other is facing down…

Put the interior fabric pieces right sides together with the design facing up and sew around both sides and the bottom using a 1/2″ seam allowance…

Trim the excess fabric from the bottom corners without getting too close to the seam you sewed…

Turn one of the fabrics right sides out…

Put the interior and exterior fabrics right sides together, push the corners together so you’ll have a nice flat lined up pouch…

Sew around the opening of the pouch with a 1/2″ seam allowance, leaving a 2 1/2″ hole to turn the pouch right side out…

Reach inside your hole and pull the fabrics through, right sides out…

With a pencil eraser push the corners of your exterior fabric out, then put the interior fabric inside the exterior and push the corners together…

Top stitch close to the edge of your pouch…

Heat seal or fray check your ribbon, fold it in half, and pin it to the back side of your pouch in the center…

Sew your ribbon into place…

Fold your pouch in half and mark where your button will need to go, how far you fold it will depend on how big you want your pouch to be…

Hand sew your button on and you’re all finished…

I love this technique! Is it possible to sew the loop into the top seam when you close it thereby hiding the ends?
Thanks for this “Magic” technique!
