“Bucky” the Buckle Toy Review & Giveaway

Buckle Toy is a toy company designing toys for toddlers aged 1-3. “Bucky” the Buckle Toy, its featured product, is a soft plush turtle, featuring buckles, colors and shapes, that is proving to be a fun companion that can hold a toddler’s attention.

Playing with the child-friendly buckles and zipper improves hand-eye coordination and promotes small motor skills. The toy also has a variety of shapes and colors to enhance learning. It’s great for everyday use, but especially helpful for car rides and travel.

The Tampa, Florida couple behind the Buckle Toy, Seth and Jill Gomez, came up with the idea after a weekend in which their 1-year-old ignored his other toys and kept playing with the buckles on his stroller. Let me preface this with WE LOVE BUCKY! Seriously, this is Logan’s favorite toy. Above the Wii, above the new books, even above his new firetrucks! I never thought he’d like anything better than firetrucks, but Bucky is just that awesome.

Bucky arrived just before Christmas so I fully expected that it would get tossed aside for all Logan’s other new toys. How could Bucky compare to flashing lights, remote controls, or things with lots of tiny pieces? Plus, in the past he’s had a variety of toys with buckles, buttons, zippers, loops, etc that are supposed to peak the interest of children, but he’d never shown interest in them and eventually they all got donated or went to live at grandparents’ houses. I honestly thought Bucky would be the same.

Sometimes it’s great to be proven wrong! Maybe it’s because he’s a turtle or maybe Logan just finally hit the age for the buckles to interest him, but whatever it was he instantly fell in love. He kissed him and said “Hi Turtle!” then he started unbuckling and buckling and unzipping and zipping and tucking his head in his shell and counting the numbers on his tummy. Bucky slept with us that night and when Logan woke up he went right back to playing with Bucky.

Bucky is now one of Logan’s best friends and travels to town with us often and everyone that sees him mentions how cute it is! It amazes me how many people in the grocery store will ask him “What have you go there?”… of course Logan just looks at them like “don’t touch my friend” lol.

My only complaint about Bucky is that the orange and blue buckles can be difficult to get open and take both hands to unfasten. Some complaint, huh? Bucky is well made and has already withstood many forms of torture in our house; from tug of war with the dog to “monkey in the middle” with the older kids/teens. I’m confident that Bucky will last through many generations of children and not fall apart after a few months.
